Winter Recreation Activities
Enjoy winter with this comprehensive list of winter fun in Moorhead!
Opportunities include ski and snowshoe rentals, outdoor and indoor skating, sledding hills, events and more!
Warming houses and activities will close if the temperature is -10 degrees or below, the wind chill is -30 degrees or below, or the ice is deemed unsafe/unskatable.

Groomed trails await cross-country skiers and trail goers in the following park locations: Gooseberry, Homestead, Horn Park, Woodlawn, River Oaks Point, M.B. Johnson, and Viking Ship Park (illuminated trail).
M.B. Johnson Trails-3 miles: Homestead Trail- 1 mile:
Vikings Ship Trail- 4 miles: Woodlawn Trail- 1 mile:
2024-25 Cross-Country Skiing & Snowshoe Rentals:
Rental equipment will be available at the Hjemkomst Center for use around Viking Ship Park (Cash and Check payments only).
Days and times (weather-permitting): Saturdays: 10 am-4:30 pm

All warming houses and rinks are open during regular scheduled hours. Locations with warming houses and lights: Hansmann Park; Lamb Park; Morningside Park; Ridgewood Park; Riverview Estates Park; Village Green Park; and South Park.
Additional Rinks: Alm Park (Lighted General Rink); Voll Park (General Rink); Trails at Stonemill Park (Lighted General and Hockey Rink).

Looking for somewhere to sled in Moorhead? We have a few parks with kid-friendly hills that, once covered in snow, will be ready for fun!
Locations: Horn Park, Riverview Estates Park, Viking Ship Park (hill is built for Frostival events), Woodlawn Park, and Village Green Sixth Park. |

Open Gym InformationBASKETBALL & VOLLEYBALL OPEN GYM Get active this winter at youth open gym! Regular and junior basketballs and volleyball equipment will be available. These days are free and open to the public!
Dates & Times: Oct. 5– Mar. 29| Saturdays from 10 am-3pm | FREE Ages: 17 and under Located at Ellen Hopkins Elementary * No Youth Open Gym Nov. 30, Dec. 21 and 28, and Jan. 4 *
ADULT PICKLEBALL OPEN GYM (18+) Get active and compete against friends and others at adult open pickleball! This program is for all adults of all skill levels, 18+. Equipment is available for use, games will be played to 7, to allow for players to rotate in and out.
