9-10:30 am – Indigenous Peoples' Day Kick Off Breakfast 2023
Located at the Indigenous Association: 720 1 Ave N Fargo
Presented by the Native American Commission and Indigenous Association
Join us for the 2023 Indigenous Peoples’ Day Kick off breakfast at the Indigenous Association. Breakfast will start at 9 am. Speakers and the Gladys Ray Award Presentation will start at 9:30 am. The Native American Commission will have a community meet and greet before and after the presentation. This event is free and open to the public!
9 am-5 pm – Ihdago Manipi: Clay County at 150
Located at the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County
Hjemkomst Center: 202 1 Ave N, Moorhead
Presented by the Native American Commission and Indigenous Association
The museum at the Hjemkomst Center will be open free of charge on Indigenous Peoples’ Day and will include access to the exhibit Ihdago Manipi: Clay County at 150, which has a large Native American history component.
11 am-Noon – NDSU Tipi Display and Presentation
Park in the Memorial Union Lot (Fee required. Credit cards accepted)
The presentation is located to the west of Administration Ave.
There will be a tipi display on campus from 8 am-5 pm. There will also be a program from 11 am-noon with singers opening the program and staff from the American Indian Public Health department at NDSU presenting.
11:30 am-2 pm – Indigenous Peoples' Day: History of Fort Snelling Concentration Camp in 1862
Free; registration required
Located at the Plains Art Museum: 704 1 Ave N, Fargo
Presented by Native Inc.
Dr. Reverend Clifford Canku, Sr. will be presenting about the Fort Snelling Concentration Camp During the U.S. Dakota War of 1862. A meal will be served, but you must pre-register. Noon-2 pm – Minobimaadiziwin/Wicozani: Decolonized Healing Approaches for Intergenerational Trauma
Free; registration required
Located at the Hjemkomst Center: 202 1 Ave N, Moorhead
Presented by the City of Moorhead and The Indigenous Association
Join Dr. Emily Sargeant, PhD, LP (White Earth Nation) and Whitney Johnson, PMHNP-BC, PMH-C (Oglala Lakota Oyate) in learning about the effects of Intergenerational trauma, as well as how the restoration of cultural identity and traditional teachings can help those affected to achieving Minobimaadiziwin/Wicozani, or ‘’The Good Life’’. 6 pm – Indigenous Peoples’ Day Powwow
Located at the Moorhead High School: 2300 4 Ave S, Moorhead
Presented by Moorhead Indian Education and Fargo/West Fargo Native American Education
Moorhead, Fargo, and West Fargo Public Schools will be holding an Indigenous Peoples’ Day Powwow. The powwow will be held at Moorhead High School. The fry bread taco meal will begin at 6 pm with the Grand Entry following the meal.
